The AAO’s Professional Development Committee presents

Lessons Learned from Public Libraries: Archival Outreach for Meaningful Engagement

At a time when GLAM institutions are often considered to be “out of date” in a digital age, we have to think of ways to connect with our audiences beyond our own walls. Much can be learned from public libraries and the ways they conduct programming, community building, and partnerships. This workshop will highlight outreach initiatives already being done by archivists across Ontario, demonstrate the value of these types of efforts to attract an archival audience, and provide a forum to brainstorm new ideas.

Participants will:

  • Discuss the goals and benefits of conducting outreach

  • Learn about outreach initiatives and partnerships already in place in Ontario institutions

  • Brainstorm new ideas and practice planning an outreach program

When: May 8, 2:30 to 5:00 pm EST

Where: Online. Instructions to join the online platform will be sent closer to the workshop date.

Cost: $60 (AAO members), $30 (AAO student members), $100 (non-members)

About the instructor:

Dez Nacario (she/her) is the Archivist for the Incorporated Synod of the Diocese of Huron. She holds a Master of Libraries and Information Science from Western University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology/Religious Studies from Mount Allison University. Dez is passionate about diversifying the GLAM world and creating professional opportunities for individuals from historically excluded communities.
