Introduction to the Preservation of Electronic Records

Date: Friday, November 7^th, 2014 – 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Place: City of Toronto Archives, Toronto

               *workshop will be held in the Conference Room

This hands-on one-day workshop will lead participants from the development of policies and procedures through to the practical elements of acquiring, processing and preserving electronic records.

Topics to be covered include:

• OAIS – what is it and why is it important
  
• Resource assessment – how you determine what you have and what you need
• Nature of electronic records – discussion of why metadata is important
• Methods of acquiring electronic records
• Storage – what  defines a Trusted Digital Repository (TDR)
• Processing electronic records

The workshop will be instructed by Archivist, Jeremy Heil. 

Cost: Per workshop $125 + HST for AAO members and $200 per workshop for non-members. Minimum participation is 8 for this workshop with a maximum set at 13.
