CONFERENCE 2017

The 2017 AAO Conference will take place from April 26th to 28th, 2017 at the Faculty of Information (iSchool), University of Toronto. It will be hosted by the Toronto Area Archivists' Group (TAAG) chapter. 

The theme of the conference is "Come Together: Meaningful Collaboration in a Connected World."

    Early bird registration for the Archives Association of Ontario (AAO) 2017 Conference ends on Sunday, 12 March.


    This year's conference will be held in Toronto, Ontario from April 26-28, 2017 at the Faculty of Information (iSchool), University of Toronto.

    The theme of the conference is Come Together: Meaningful Collaboration in a Connected World. The recently updated draft program-at-a-glance is available on the conference website.

    The Program and Local Arrangements Committee have put together an exciting lineup of social activities and tours. This includes the Thursday evening Conference Banquet to be held at Hart House at the University of Toronto. This year's banquet will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first graduating class (1997) of the Archives & Records Management concentration at the Faculty of Information.

    Donate items to this year’s Silent Auction!

    The 2017 AAO Conference will be hosted by the Toronto Area Archivists' Group in Toronto, Ontario

    We are looking for members to donate items such as (but not limited to):

    • Artwork – Archival supplies  – Baked goods  – Books (related to the profession) -
    • Hand crafted pieces – Pottery – Gift Baskets

    Funds raised from this auction will go to the AAO Shirley Spragge Education Fund, to encourage the continuing education of archivists in Ontario. Your donations are greatly appreciated. A donation to the silent auction would not only support this fund, but would honour the memory of a respected colleague. All items donated will receive a tax receipt.

    We are pleased to announce that the early bird registration for the Archives Association of Ontario (AAO) 2017 conference in Toronto, Ontario is now open! The theme of the conference is Come Together: Meaningful Collaboration in a Connected World. The conference will be held at the Faculty of Information (iSchool), University of Toronto from April 26 to April 28, 2017.

    The Program at a Glance is available on the conference website along with information about the pre-conference workshop, where to stay while in Toronto, social events and much more!

    The Archives Association of Ontario (AAO) is extending the deadline for the Student Paper and Poster submissions for the 2017 AAO Conference to be held 26-28 April 2017 in Toronto, Ontario. 

    Come Together : Meaningful Collaboration in a Connected World

    Collaboration requires space and room in order to be meaningful - it is a journey that may take unforeseen turns and produce unexpected connections and results. The Conference Program Committee invites proposals pertaining to all areas of archival theory and practice that address issues / experiences around partnership / collaboration.

    Topics include, but are not limited to:

    • Have you been partnering with an institution or department as a student intern?
    • How can archives work more effectively with organizations that train heritage professionals?
    • What are some of the innovative partnerships currently taking place which you have observed, or have participated in?

    Submissions of proposals for papers and posters are invited.

    The proposals should be sent as a .pdf attachment with a brief abstract of 250 words and a bio to: AAO Office at aao@aao-archivists.ca

    For paper submissions use the subject line format: AAO 2017 STUDENT Conference Proposal_ PAPER_ [last name, first name]

    For poster submissions use the subject line format: AAO 2017 STUDENT Conference Proposal_ POSTER_[last name, first name] 

    The deadline to submit Student Paper and Poster Proposals is 13 February 2017.

    The Archives Association of Ontario (AAO) is pleased to announce its Call for Papers for the 2017 AAO Conference to be held 26-28 April 2017 in Toronto, Ontario (please note the conference is earlier this year so preparation deadlines have also been moved up).

    Collaboration requires space and room in order to be meaningful - it is a journey that may take unforeseen turns and produce unexpected connections and results. The Conference Program Committee invites proposals pertaining to all areas of archival theory and practice that address issues / experiences around partnership / collaboration.
    Topics include, but are not limited to:
    •    How can archives work more effectively with each other?
    •    Have you been partnering with another institution or department for a sesquicentennial Canada 150 project?
    •    How can archives work more effectively with organizations such as museums, libraries, or historical societies that house archival collections?
    •    What are some of the innovative partnerships currently taking place in your institution?
    •    Have you been working with local community groups
    •    Has your institution been building relationships with Indigenous communities in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action?
     
    Submissions of proposals for individual papers or entire sessions are invited.

    The proposals should be sent with a brief abstract of 250 words and a bio to: AAO Office at aao@aao-archivists.ca

    Use the subject line format:  AAO 2017 Conference Proposal_[last name, first name]

    If you get a panel proposal together, please select a "point person" for your panel group and use the   subject line format: AAO 2017 Conference Proposal_PANEL-[title]-[last name, first name]

    The deadline to submit proposals is 15 December 2016

    We are happy to announce that the 2017 AAO Conference will include, depending on student interest/response, a Student Papers session and, possibly a Poster session.

    A separate call for student submissions will be issued early in the New Year.
