First Timers Reception

Students and first-time conference attendees are encouraged to join us at this casual reception. Take this opportunity to meet fellow first-time delegates as well as members of the AAO Board and Student Outreach Subcommittee.

Opening Reception

Meet fellow delegates at the O’Kelly VC Armoury for the official opening of the 2020 AAO Conference. Enjoy refreshments and take a free tour of the Thunder Bay Military Museum, located in the Armoury.

Pub Night

After the Opening Reception, join your colleagues at the Red Lion Smokehouse for a casual pub night. We will walk over from the Armoury after the Opening Reception, and transportation will be available for those who require it.

Alexander Henry Tour

Join us for this exciting tour of the CCGS Alexander Henry, a retired icebreaker that was built in Port Arthur in 1959 and is now permanently docked on the waterfront in Thunder Bay. Please note that the tour will take place on the ship, which, although docked, is on the water and has some steep and narrow stairways, uneven floors, and low doorways.

When: May 14, 2020 from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Where: The Alexander Henry is docked at Pool 6 in Marina Park, a 15-minute walk from the Prince Arthur Waterfront Hotel. Transportation will be available for those who require it. [Map]

Conference Banquet

Join us for a fantastic banquet dinner, with stunning views of the Sleeping Giant and waterfront. The banquet will take place in Mariners Hall, catered by and in the same building as Bight Restaurant.

Port Arthur Historical Walking Tour

Join us for a walking tour to discover the history of downtown Port Arthur (today, the north end of Thunder Bay), led by the Thunder Bay Museum. Please note this tour is limited to 30 participants. Sign up Spreadsheet

Informal Dinner at a Local Restaurant

The conference may have officially ended earlier in the afternoon, but, for those still in town, you are welcome to join us at a local restaurant (location to be decided) for a casual meal.

Casual Archives Crawl

For those still in town and wanting to get a behind-the-scenes look at some local archives, join us for this casual archives crawl. We will meet at the Hoito for breakfast and learn about the history of the Finnish Labour Temple. From there, we will carpool to the City of Thunder Bay Archives, the Lakehead University Archives, the Thunder Bay Museum, and the Thunder Bay Art Gallery.
