Purpose

Education for archivists in Canada remains a priority within the profession. The purpose of the education program of the Archives Association of Ontario is to provide formalized training for the membership of the organization and for others interested in archival duties in Ontario. To better serve the archival community and the public through high quality education programs and enhanced human resource planning for archives and archivists in the province of Ontario. Our program follows the training and education guidelines developed by the Association of Canadian Archivists. The program aims at the growth of a stronger, better educated archival profession in the Province.

While the reserved date, April 15th, for the block of rooms at Saint Paul University residence has passed rooms are still available on a first come first serve basis. There are plenty of rooms at the moment but this will change as the conference dates draw closer. Book now! Reminder that Early Bird Conference registration savings end April 30th.

Rooms are $94.95 regardless of whether one or both bedrooms are occupied. However, may we suggest sharing with a roommate to split the costs. The rooms also accommodate couples sharing as up to 4 people are permitted before additional costs incur.

For those who may wish to choose a hotel for their stay during the conference a couple of options are the Best Western located at 377 O'Connor and the Business Inn located at 180 MacLaren Street. They are both about 20 minutes walking distance from Saint Paul University. There is no official endorsement for these hotels.

For the AAO 2013 Conference, "Is the Medium the Message?" taking place in Ottawa at Saint Paul University we have secured a block of 35 double occupancy rooms in residence at Saint Paul. The rooms have two separate bedrooms joined to a common space.

DRAAG Social Media Workshop

The Durham Region Area Archivists Group (DRAAG) will be hosting a half-day workshop on the many ways that small archives can use social media to increase their profile and reach new and different audiences.

The workshop will feature the pros and cons of the most popular social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and Pininterest. The workshop leaders will highlight how these platforms can work for your site and will also work with participants to set up accounts for their sites.

The workshop will be held on April 15 from 1 pm until 4 pm at the downtown campus of UOIT, Oshawa. The building is located at 61 Charles Street, across from the General Motors Centre. Parking is available at the Mary Street parking garage.

Cost is $15 per participant. Pre-registration is necessary.

The Programmes Committee, Local Arrangements Committee and the PDC have been working hard to bring you this year's conference held May 29 – 31, 2013 at Saint Paul University, Ottawa ON.

The PDC has planned two ½ day workshops, addressing various aspects of digitization click [here for the first] ad [here for the second]

The Programmes Committee has gone over and above to provide you with a great slate of sessions [click here to see whose presenting]

The Local Arrangements Committee is meeting weekly to ensure all the I's are dotted and the T's are crossed for your 2013 AAO Conference experience. Information regarding accommodation with be posted on the website by mid week.
